So many of my clients contact me complaining about struggling with lacking a space storage. Since I work with many clients for 20 years in the Tri State Area, I have seen many situations when my clients don’t know what to do with not enough closet space and storage space in the home or apartment.
I just spent a day with my client Michelle in her beautiful condo in Mid Manhattan. The place was fantastic but small and again, the biggest issue was storage space. No worries! There is always a solution. We need to start with creating the smart storage solution.
Smart storage means that you can find what you want when you want it or need it. When your possessions are stored well, not only your space looks clean but also is clutter- free and organized well. Think of feeling amazing and being productive since you can find everything within seconds. This is one of the most important keys to help my clients, when they struggle with clutter and storage.
When I worked with Michelle, first I listened to her making sure that I understand what she wants to accomplish. After evaluating her spaces, we started with one space at the time.
Kitchen is a struggle for so many people. Since I always come prepared, I purchased all different containers that can be stackable. baskets, inside cabinets shelving etc. We went through glassware, plates and similar items making sure that my clients wants to keep. We went through all categories and kept similar items together. We even created a small pantry for her.
The next step is to go to the next space, for instance, closets. That is usually a big problem for many of my clients. Again, start with going through your clothes, shoes, etc. Change your hunger for velvet that takes less space. In your closet only keep your seasonal items and remove all off-season clothes and shoes.
We will store them underneath your bed, the top shelf of your closet, or somewhere else. If you have small closet space, just remember to keep items that you are using right now. Using cubicles( here example from Ikea) is a great solution for extra storage space that You need. In addition, go as high as you can. Extra shelving allows you to keep your off-season items.
